Diving in HALMAHERA

We are in Indonesia in the Maluku Utara province (North Moluccas), Halmahera is the biggest island in the northern area of this archipelago that devides Sulawesi from Papua. The island has North Sulawesi on the western side and Raja Ampat on the eastern side, in other words it is located between two of the most famous diving places. For those, like me, who love to dive in the “Coral triangle”, it is practically The Navel of the World!
The amazing depths of Raja Ampat and North Sulawesi spring to your mind, when you dive here. Huge hard coral formations, wonderful colors of the sponges and soft coral and above all the luxuriant and spectacular gorgonians as in Raja Ampat. The critters so strange, colorful, cryptic, unique and fascinating as in North Sulawesi.

Starting point at Weda Resort of Rob and Linda Sinke, that is located in Weda Bay more or less in the center of the oriental coast of Halmahera.

From here in one hour and half at most it is possible to reach many different dive spots around the three main reefs of the area by speed boat: Gorango, Elmoos and Tidore. Each one with its peculiarity along the slopes and walls. Some dive spots along the coast close to the resort are also real interesting for night dives and not only for this.
